Students using ChatGPT in programming assignments – what policy actually works?
In my machine learning lab this year a large share of submitted notebooks were clearly written with an AI assistant: correct, clean code that the authors could not explain during the defence. Banning it seems unenforceable. Has anyone moved to a policy that allows AI tools but still checks understanding? I am thinking of short oral defences and asking students to submit the prompts they used.
