Do not underestimate the logistics: test the polling tool in the hall beforehand. Weak Wi‑Fi has ruined more than one of my plans.

Peer instruction works well: a conceptual multiple-choice question, everyone votes, two minutes of discussion with a neighbour, vote again. Two or three per lecture is enough. The second vote is usually much better and students notice it.

I put one question on the slide at the start of the lecture and answer it at the end. Simple, but students stay because they want to know the answer.
